Chris Mitchell

Dr Chris Mitchell is a Tutor at the Institute of Education and Humanities within the University of Wales Trinity Saint David. He contributes to the Cultural Astronomy and Astrology MA program through teaching, marking papers, and delivering sessions on the History of Astrology module. His roles include presentations at summer schools and conferences at the London campus.

Education:

• PhD (2019): University of Leicester, focusing on the introduction of Arabic/Hebrew astrological texts into 12th-century England.
• MA (2008): Bath Spa University College, specializing in Babylonian zodiac development.

Research Interests: Mitchell’s work examines the translation of astrological texts from the Islamic world into Latin during the 12th century, their impact on European astrology, and the role of Jewish scholars in this cultural exchange. He also studies medieval manuscripts, paleography, and digital tools for analyzing historical documents.

Publications & Awards: His major works include a 2020 PhD thesis on Roger of Hereford’s judicial astrology and a 2014 press release on astrology in healthcare. He received a travel grant in 2015 for presenting at the International Congress on Medieval Studies.

Enterprise: Beyond academia, Mitchell runs a software consultancy for NHS hospitals and provides technical astrological services, including ephemeris creation and lunar phase tables for apps.
