Prof. Carsten Strohmann leads the Department of Inorganic Chemistry at the Faculty of Chemistry and Chemical Biology (CCB), Technische Universität Dortmund. His research spans organometallic chemistry, silicon-based materials, and mechanistic studies in anionic polymerization and asymmetric catalysis. Key methodologies include in situ FTIR spectroscopy, quantum chemical calculations, and X-ray diffraction.
Recent work focuses on Si–N bond formation (2025), water-tertiary amine hydrogen bonding (2025), and enantioselective phosphine synthesis (2024). Collaborations with institutions like Universidad de Valladolid and industry partners (BASF, Bruker) highlight applied relevance.
Students in his group (Paul Schneider, Annika Schmidt, Jan-Lukas Kirchhoff, Franziska Klotz, et al.) explore topics such as planar chiral ferrocenes, Si-chiral silanols, and microwave-assisted reactions, with funding from the VCI Stipendien-Fonds, Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung, and Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft.
