Dr. Carolin Kunz is a Researcher at the Chair for Social Structure and Sociology of Aging Societies within the Faculty of Social Sciences at Technical University of Dortmund. Since February 2021, she has been working as a research associate at this Chair, and since 2025, she has also been researching in the collaborative project 'Interactions between health and retirement: social inequality against the background of an increase in the retirement age (GeReAlt)', which was acquired together with Prof. Dr. Martina Brandt and Prof. Dr. Rasmus Hoffmann from the University of Bamberg.
Her educational background includes a PhD in Sociology from Bielefeld University (2016-2020), a Master's in Sociology (2008-2013), and a Bachelor's in Sociology from the same institution (2005-2008), including an Erasmus semester at Université Libre de Bruxelles (2009).
As a health sociologist, Dr. Kunz investigates the interplay of (new) forms of work on health up to possible early retirement using quantitative methods of empirical social research. Her research interests encompass Health, Quantitative Social Research, Work, Digitalization, (New) forms of work, and Social Structure. Her recent publications demonstrate a strong focus on work ability, leadership effects, doctoral student experiences, and the relationship between work conditions and health outcomes.
Dr. Kunz has secured significant research funding, including a collaborative project 'GeReAlt' funded by the Federal Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs with approximately 390,000€ (TU Dortmund University share: approx. 190,000€), as well as multiple Quality Improvement Commissions from TU Dortmund University for various educational initiatives.

She teaches courses including Social Structure Analysis, Health Inequalities (Master), Survey Design (Master), and various quantitative methods courses focusing on work and health. Her research is conducted within the context of aging societies and social inequality, with particular attention to how changing work conditions affect health outcomes across the lifespan.
