Caroline Hasselgren Bune

Caroline Hasselgren Bune serves as a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Sociology and Work Science at the University of Gothenburg, where she has worked since January 2020. She is also affiliated with the interdisciplinary research center AgeCap - Centre for Aging & Health. Additionally, she co-founded the SAIN – SWEAH Alumni Interdisciplinary Network, which aims to foster long-term interdisciplinary research collaborations on aging among junior researchers.

Dr. Hasselgren Bune's research focuses on living conditions and health in old age, welfare and eldercare systems, medical sociology, social stratification and health inequity, and quantitative methods. Her work examines the intersection of social determinants with health outcomes, particularly in aging populations. She has conducted extensive research on dementia risk factors, retirement trajectories, work conditions in eldercare, and social inequities in health outcomes across the lifespan.

Her most recent publications demonstrate a consistent focus on aging, retirement, dementia risk factors, and work conditions in eldercare. These works employ sophisticated quantitative methodologies to analyze complex interactions between social factors, genetic predispositions, and health outcomes. Her research often examines how social inequalities manifest in health disparities among older adults.

Dr. Hasselgren Bune is Principal Investigator for the project 'A matter of transition? Working life trajectories and retirement behavior in post-socialist contexts across Central and Eastern Europe' (2023-2025) and is a project member for two additional studies: 'Strategies for Improved Work Longevity from an Employer and Employee Perspective' (2022-2027) and 'Patterns of stress across the life course and their role in mental health and loneliness in older adults' (2023-2026).

She primarily teaches courses on research methodology with a specific focus on quantitative methods and statistics, drawing on her expertise in analyzing complex social and health data.
