Prof. Dr. Martina Brandt is a Professor of Social Structure and Sociology of Aging Societies at Technische Universität Dortmund. She serves as Vice Dean of Research for the Department of Social Sciences (Department 17) and leads the Master's Program on Aging Societies. Additionally, she chairs the Expert Commission for the 9th Government Report on Older People and coordinates the Family & Social Networks domain in the Survey of Health, Aging, and Retirement in Europe (SHARE). Her research focuses on family dynamics, health trajectories across the life course, caregiving systems, social inequality, and methodological advancements in aging studies.
Her professional roles include leadership in the HBS Graduate School ('New Challenges in Aging Societies'), bridging academic research and policy. She actively investigates how social policies, regional conditions, and familial networks influence well-being in later life. Her work emphasizes gendered disparities, intergenerational support, and the impact of climate change on aging populations.
Prof. Brandt collaborates internationally, contributing to cross-national studies on aging societies and health equity. She has authored over 50 publications analyzing topics like health inequalities, caregiving burdens, and the societal integration of older adults. Her research often integrates empirical data from SHARE, providing actionable insights for policymakers.
