Carsta Simon is a Professor in the Department of Psychosocial Health at the University of Agder. She holds a Ph.D. in Behavior Analysis from Oslo Metropolitan University and a master's degree from Stockholm University, UC Davis, and TU Braunschweig. Her research focuses on the interaction between behavior and environment, particularly analyzing verbal behavior units and exploring links between Darwinian and ontogenetic selection processes. She is an alumna of the German Academic Scholarship Foundation and fluent in English, Norwegian, Swedish, and German.
Her work spans empirical studies on conversational dynamics and conceptual inquiries into evolutionary behaviorism. Notable research includes investigations into active listening responses, the Nordic cultural practice of Dugnad, and multiscale analyses of verbal behavior. She has published widely in journals like Perspectives on Behavior Science and Behavioral Processes, and engages in public outreach through podcasts and science fairs.
Dr. Simon’s academic leadership includes organizing symposia on evolutionary lenses in behavior analysis and chairing sessions at international conferences. Her theoretical contributions emphasize a molar-multiscale framework for understanding behavioral units across temporal scales.
