Carolyn Watson is a distinguished conductor and Professor serving as Director of Orchestras at the University of Illinois. She also holds positions as Music Director of the La Porte County Symphony Orchestra and Principal Guest Conductor of the Kansas City Chamber Orchestra. Originally from Australia, her career spans international engagements with orchestras and opera companies including the Berlin Philharmonic, Dallas Opera, and Sydney Symphony. She holds a PhD in Performance (Conducting) from the University of Sydney, focusing on the techniques of Carlos Kleiber.
Her research and performance interests encompass orchestral conducting, operatic direction, and the study of historical and contemporary repertoire. Watson has received prestigious awards such as the Churchill Fellowship and finalist recognition in Australia’s Advance Awards. Her conducting masterclasses and residencies reflect her commitment to advancing musical education globally.
