Dr. Carolyn Auma serves as a Lecturer in Nutrition at the School of Food Science and Nutrition within the Faculty of Environment at the University of Leeds, having joined as a Teaching Fellow in February 2020. Her professional background spans research, teaching, and third-sector roles across Food Science and Nutrition institutions including FAO Somalia in Kenya, BRAC Uganda, and the University of Sheffield.
Her academic qualifications include:
- PhD in Public Health Nutrition, University of Sheffield
- MSc in International Public Health Nutrition, University of Westminster
- BSc in Food Science and Technology, Makerere University, Uganda
Dr. Auma's research program critically examines public health nutrition through the lens of sustainable food systems in low-resource settings. Her work investigates nutrition transition dynamics, dietary behaviour determinants, diabetes management challenges, and policy translation across Global South contexts—particularly Uganda—with emphasis on mixed-methods approaches that bridge scientific evidence and practical implementation in nutrition communication.
As Undergraduate Admissions Tutor, she teaches across Nutritional Biochemistry, Food Biochemistry, Nutrition Policy, and Sustainable Food Systems modules at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Her professional affiliations include membership in the Royal Society of Public Health, reflecting her commitment to evidence-based nutrition practice.
