Dr. Simon P.S. Kibira serves as a Senior Lecturer in Public Health at Makerere University School of Public Health (MakSPH), Uganda, with over 19 years of experience as a leading social and population scientist specializing in research, teaching, and project management.
Education:
- PhD in International Health, University of Bergen, Norway
- MSc in Population and Reproductive Health (with distinction), Makerere University, Uganda
- BA in Social Sciences (First Class), Makerere University, Uganda
Research Focus: His work centers on sexual and reproductive health, qualitative methodology, and population dynamics, with significant contributions to understanding fertility, infertility, male circumcision, and sexual behavior through national surveys and multi-country collaborations. He employs behavioral change communication and health promotion frameworks to address social determinants of health.

Research Leadership: Dr. Kibira has directed critical studies including Demographic and Health Surveys (DHS), family planning assessments, HIV research, schistosomiasis prevalence mapping, and vaccination coverage evaluations. His projects consistently involve multi-stakeholder partnerships across African nations, generating policy-influencing evidence for Uganda's public health sector.
Institutional Roles: He currently chairs MakSPH's ICT and Public Relations Committee and serves as Secretary of the School's Research and Ethics Committee (SPHREC), while mentoring students across undergraduate to doctoral levels in public health disciplines.
