Caroline Teschmer

Prof. Dr. Caroline Teschmer holds the Chair of Practical Theology/Religious Education at the Evangelical-Theological Faculty of the University of Bonn since 2024. She previously served in multiple visiting professorships across German universities including Tübingen, Duisburg-Essen, and Hamburg. Her research focuses on religious education theory and practice, confessional cooperation, ethical education, and body theology. She directs the Bonn Institute for Professionally Oriented Religious Education (bibor) and was awarded the Hanna-Jursch-Preis for her habilitation thesis in 2024.

Education: PhD (2013) from Universität Osnabrück and Habilitation (2022) from Universität Augsburg. Earlier roles include postdoctoral research at Ruhr-Universität Bochum and Universität Osnabrück, and teaching at St.-Franziskus-Berufskolleg Hamm.

Research interests span confessional cooperative religious instruction, digital youth pastoral care, embodiment in religious pedagogy, and gender/sexuality ethics. She co-edits the upcoming book project on the future viability of religious education and published extensively on topics like queer theology, ethical family models, and empathy development in children.

Key publications include Konfessionell kooperativer Religionsunterricht – Eine Fachdidaktik (2024), Perspektiven einer körpersensiblen Religionspädagogik (2023), and Mitgefühl als Weg zur Werte-Bildung (2014). Her work bridges theological scholarship with practical educational challenges in contemporary society.

Awards include the 2024 Hanna-Jursch-Preis from the EKD for her habilitation thesis. Active in academic leadership, she has designed educational programs addressing digital seelsorge, pandemic-era family ethics, and inclusive religious education models.
