Caroline Robson is an Associate Professor of Radiology at Harvard Medical School and serves as the Neuroradiology Division Chief and Director of Head and Neck Imaging at Boston Children's Hospital. With over 25 years of experience since joining the hospital staff in 1996, Dr. Robson has established herself as a leading expert in pediatric head and neck imaging and congenital cranial disorders.
Dr. Robson's educational background includes:
- MBChB from University of Cape Town Observatory (1984, Cape Town, South Africa)
- Internship at Groote Schuur Hospital, UCT Observatory (1985, Cape Town, South Africa)
- Internship in Cardiology & ICU at Groote Schuur Hospital (1986, Cape Town, South Africa)
- Radiology Residency at Groote Schuur Hospital, UCT Observatory (1990, Cape Town, South Africa)
- Fellowship at Boston City Hospital (1994, Boston, MA)
- Pediatric Neuroradiology Fellowship at Boston Children's Hospital (1996, Boston, MA)
Dr. Robson's research primarily focuses on advancing the understanding and imaging of pediatric head and neck disorders, with special emphasis on head and neck tumors, temporal bone imaging, and congenital cranial dysinnervation disorders. Her work explores the correlation between imaging findings and fetal/pediatric genetic disorders, seeking to improve diagnostic capabilities and patient outcomes. She has pioneered techniques in fetal head and neck imaging and has made significant contributions to understanding the MR phenotypes of various congenital anomalies.
Dr. Robson's extensive publication record demonstrates consistent contributions across multiple domains of pediatric neuroradiology. Her recent work shows increasing focus on the genetic underpinnings of cranial dysinnervation disorders, with numerous publications exploring genotype-phenotype correlations. She has also made significant contributions to consensus guidelines for pediatric head and neck imaging and has pioneered educational initiatives through social media platforms.
Dr. Robson has received notable recognition for her contributions to the field:
- Past President of the American Society of Pediatric Neuroradiology
- President-elect of the American Society of Head and Neck Radiology
As a key member of the Engle Lab research team, Dr. Robson collaborates extensively with Dr. Elizabeth Engle and other researchers across multiple departments including Ophthalmology, ORL, Maxillofacial and Plastic Surgery. Her leadership extends to serving as Radiology Vice Chair at Boston Children's Hospital, where she guides strategic direction for the department while maintaining her active clinical and research roles. Dr. Robson has been instrumental in developing multidisciplinary approaches to complex pediatric head and neck conditions.
Dr. Robson leads several collaborative initiatives including a gamified social media-based head and neck radiology education program that has demonstrated significant engagement over three years. Her laboratory work focuses on correlating imaging findings with genetic discoveries, particularly in the area of congenital cranial dysinnervation disorders. Through her leadership roles in professional societies, she continues to shape the future of pediatric neuroradiology training and practice.
