Caroline Rickards, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor in the Department of Physiology and Anatomy at the University of North Texas Health Science Center's College of Biomedical and Translational Sciences. She teaches cardiovascular physiology to medical and graduate students in the Master’s in Medical Sciences and traditional PhD/MS programs.
- Education: PhD from RMIT University (Melbourne, Australia, 2005)
Research Focus: The Cerebral & Cardiovascular Physiology Laboratory investigates vital organ perfusion under stress, particularly cerebral blood flow regulation during traumatic hemorrhage, cardiac arrest, and stroke. Key projects include:
- Early hemorrhagic injury detection
- Physiological tolerance mechanisms
- Sensor technology development for hypoperfusion monitoring
- Therapy testing (resistance breathing, oscillatory perfusion therapy)
Her recent publications focus on cerebral oxygenation, hemorrhage simulation models, and perfusion optimization techniques. Collaborations span academic, industry, and government partners including the American Heart Association.
- Current Funding: American Heart Association Transformational Project Award (19TPA34910073), Grant-in-Aid (17GRNT33671110)
