Carolina Allers is Assistant Professor of Microbiology and Immunology at Tulane School of Medicine. She directs the Pathogen Detection and Quantification Core and co-investigates the NIH Cellular Immunology Core Laboratory.
Research examines cellular immunology mechanisms in HIV/SIV pathogenesis, particularly macrophage biology and co-infections like tuberculosis. Primate models are central to her translational approach.
Publications investigate viral transmission mechanisms including tunneling nanotubes, germinal center responses to immunization, and pathogen detection methods. Recent work includes SARS-CoV-2 infection models.
