Carola Kloeck is an Associate Professor at Sciences Po and affiliated with the Centre for International Studies and Research (CERI). She joined CERI in September 2018 and is based in the political science field. Her roles include co-organizing the seminar series "Environment and International Relations" and teaching courses such as "Espace Mondial" (World Politics) on the Franco-German campus in Nancy.
Her research bridges political science, human geography, and development studies, focusing on climate change adaptation, particularly in small island developing states. She investigates how adaptation finance is distributed and utilized, emphasizing the challenges faced by island nations in international climate negotiations.
Recent publications highlight her work on climate change coalitions, donor interactions in aid allocation, and maladaptation strategies like seawalls in island contexts. These works span disciplines including political science, environmental science, and development studies, with sub-fields such as climate policy, coastal management, and global governance.
Kloeck co-edited a volume on adaptation in small island states funded by the Volkswagen Foundation and has held academic positions at the University of Gothenburg, University of Antwerp, University of Göttingen, and visiting roles at the Australian National University and the University of the South Pacific.
