Dr Carol El-Hayek serves as a Senior Research Fellow at the UQ Poche Centre for Indigenous Health, University of Queensland, leveraging over 15 years of expertise in public health surveillance and epidemiology. Her work focuses on Indigenous health outcomes through data-driven approaches within Australia's primary care systems.
Her educational background includes a PhD investigating computational analytics applied to electronic medical records for disease surveillance enhancement, complemented by professional certification as a health informatician. This foundation supports her technical proficiency in health data systems.
Research interests center on epidemiological methods for monitoring blood borne viruses and sexually transmissible infections, with specialized emphasis on health informatics applications in real-world surveillance networks. Her work bridges computational analytics and public health practice to address health disparities in vulnerable populations.
She currently leads the ATLAS Indigenous primary care surveillance network, which integrates clinical data from Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Services to evaluate health service delivery and inform policy development for Indigenous communities across Australia.
