Associate Professor Judith Dean is a Principal Research Fellow at the UQ Poche Centre for Indigenous Health and an Affiliate Associate Professor at the School of Public Health, University of Queensland. With over 25 years of clinical and research experience in sexual and reproductive health (SRH), HIV, and bloodborne viruses (BBV), her work focuses on addressing health inequities through community-driven models of care.
- Education: PhD (2014, Griffith University), Master of Public Health and Tropical Medicine (James Cook University), Bachelor of Nursing (University of Southern Queensland)
- Research Themes: Indigenous health, SRH for gender/sexually diverse youth, CALD communities, peer-led STI testing, and pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) access.
Recent Publications highlight trends in STI epidemiology, transgender healthcare, digital sexual health trust, and curriculum reform for unplanned pregnancy care. She supervises PhD/MPhil, Honours, and Master of Public Health projects, particularly in Indigenous maternal health and SRH equity. Her funding includes NHMRC/MRFF grants for initiatives like the Birthing in Our Community program and Blak and Proud LGBTQAI+ care models.
- Key Collaborations: Work with Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Services, refugee/migrant networks, and LGBTQAI+ organizations.
- Teaching: Contributes to UQ’s Bachelor of Health Science and Master of Public Health programs.
