Carlina Duan is an Assistant Professor at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, specializing in poetry and education. She holds a Ph.D. from the University of Michigan’s Joint Program in English and Education, and an M.F.A. in Poetry from Vanderbilt University. Her research focuses on documentary poetics, Asian American literature, and pedagogy, with a commitment to community-engaged arts education. She has authored two poetry collections: Alien Miss (2021) and I Wore My Blackest Hair (2017), and her work has appeared in POETRY, The Kenyon Review, and Narrative Magazine. Duan has received numerous awards, including the Moscow Prize for Teaching and residencies from Tin House, Hedgebrook, and the U.S. Fulbright Program.

Research interests include post-colonial theory, visual culture, and the intersection of poetry with social justice. She has collaborated on projects such as Red Like Jam (2021) and Beyond Garden, a VR poetry installation. Duan teaches advanced poetry writing and emphasizes interdisciplinary creative practices.
