Professor Carla Spivack is the David Josiah Brewer Distinguished Professor of Law at Albany Law School. She teaches Wills, Trusts and Estates, Tax Law, Property Law, Estate Planning, and Elder Law. Her research focuses on inheritance law's societal impact through lenses of race, class, and gender. She co-authored a Wills & Trusts casebook, a Developing Professional Skills volume, and Gilberts outlines, while publishing in top law reviews. She initiated the 'Wills, Trusts and Estates Meets Gender, Race and Class' conference in 2016.
Education: BA (Princeton University), JD (New York University School of Law), PhD (Boston College). Prior to law teaching, she was a community organizer in Boston and taught at Oklahoma City University School of Law (2005–202X).
Research Interests: Intersection of inheritance law with societal power dynamics, legal frameworks shaping wealth transfer equity. She advocates for inclusive policy through interdisciplinary analysis combining legal doctrine with social theory.
Other Activities: Active in legal education reform, particularly skill development for future attorneys. Enjoys 19th-century literature, animal advocacy (especially stray dogs), and cooking.
