Carl T. Hummell is an Instructor in the Homeland Security program at Wichita State University (WSU), which he helped coordinate and launch in Fall 2018 following a 20-year federal law enforcement career. His roles included Special Agent positions with the Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS) and later Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), focusing on criminal investigations involving human smuggling, narcotics trafficking, cybercrime, and counter-terrorism. He also served on the Wichita FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force.
Before federal service, Hummell spent eight years in the U.S. Marine Corps, including combat operations during the 1991 Gulf War and later roles in military instruction. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Education from Missouri State University.
His research interests center on modern law enforcement strategies, homeland security policies, and transnational crime prevention. Though not listed in publications, his professional experience reflects expertise in border security, intelligence operations, and interagency collaboration.
Currently residing in Wichita with his family, Hummell contributes to academia through curriculum development in homeland security education.
