Dr. Carl Cater is an Associate Professor in Tourism Marketing at Swansea University's School of Management. With over 40 publications and fieldwork in 80+ countries, his research explores adventure tourism, ecotourism, and sustainable marine tourism. His co-authored book Marine Ecotourism: Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea (2007) and edited Encyclopaedia of Sustainable Tourism (2015) represent major contributions to the field.
His recent articles focus on sustainable mountain tourism in Nepal, psychological segmentation of resort customers, motorcycle tourism group dynamics, and educational approaches to ocean literacy. A consistent theme is the intersection of specialized tourism activities with sustainability frameworks and cultural exchange.
As a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society and certified pilot, diver, and mountain leader, he integrates practical expertise into his teaching on tourism entrepreneurship, marketing research, and field studies.
