Cara Phipps is an Assistant Professor of Theatre and Program Coordinator at Graceland University, splitting her time between Lamoni, IA, and Saint Paul, MN. Her roles include teaching courses in acting, directing, and The Art of the Idea, a new course on creativity. She holds a BA from the University of Portland (OR) and an MFA in Directing from the University of Texas at Austin.
Her research focuses on analyzing new play development, queering canonical works, and reimagining classical theatre. Notable directing credits include the world premiere of Through the Sunken Lands at the Kennedy Center, as well as productions like THE GLASS MENAGERIE and THE MAD ONES. She has collaborated with institutions such as the Guthrie Theater, the Jungle Theater, and the University of Minnesota Guthrie/BFA program.
