Dr. Dodworth specializes in nineteenth-century British literature, with research foci on Gothicism, Realism, Impressionism, and Naturalism. His work explores intersections between literature and art, including adaptation studies and food studies in literature, often analyzing how metaphysical themes and visual culture are expressed through textual and artistic forms.
His publications emphasize interdisciplinary approaches, particularly the Gothicization of food in Victorian texts, supernatural realism in 19th-century novels and paintings, and metaphysical themes in Victorian poetry. He has also examined the presence of evil in Gothic fiction and its theological implications.
