Dr. Cameron Cartiere is a Professor at the Faculty of Culture and Community, Emily Carr University of Art + Design. Her work focuses on public art, community engagement, and urban renewal, with a particular emphasis on socially inclusive practices. She is known for her research on the sustainable impacts of public art, supported by SSHRC funding, and leads the Border Free Bees initiative transforming urban greenways into pollinator habitats through art.
Her publications include RE/Placing Public Art (2017), The Practice of Public Art (2013), and co-edited volumes on public art's role in social inclusion. She co-founded chART Projects, a platform for collaborative public art practices, and currently oversees projects at Oak Park Fieldhouse. Cartiere also co-edits the journal Public Art Dialogue, advancing discourse in curatorial and public art studies.
Her research integrates art with ecological and social challenges, using creative methods to address urban renewal and community participation. The Border Free Bees project exemplifies her commitment to art as a driver for ecological and social change, blending aesthetics with environmental stewardship.
