Helene Illeris is a Professor in Art Subject Pedagogy at the University of Agder (UiA), Department of Visual and Performing Arts. Her work focuses on art-based educational practices, environmental sustainability, and aesthetic learning processes in the Anthropocene. She leads research groups exploring art’s role in youth education and social relations, emphasizing performative and sensory approaches.
Her research integrates a/r/tography and interdisciplinary methodologies to address ecological awareness, community engagement, and transformative education through art. Recent projects include studies on material practices (e.g., wool felting), landscape fieldwork, and border-crossing artistic methodologies.
Publications highlight her contributions to art education theory, including co-editing the 2024 anthology *Art Subject Didactics as Artistic, Research-Based, and Attentive Teaching Practice*. Her work bridges art, ecology, and pedagogy, advocating for inclusive and socially responsive educational frameworks.
