Callan Childs serves as Assistant Professor in the Department of Architecture & Interior Design at Samford University's School of the Arts, joining the faculty in 2022. A Birmingham native and licensed architect with over 30 years of professional experience, she brings extensive expertise from roles including Director of Design and Development at Sloss Real Estate and prior positions in Los Angeles and Boulder.
Her educational background includes:
- Undergraduate architecture studies at Washington University in St. Louis
- Master of Architecture from Southern California Institute of Architecture
Professor Childs' research centers on urban planning and design, adaptive re-use, historic preservation, building systems, and community-based participatory planning. Her work bridges academic theory with practical urban redevelopment, leveraging her professional experience in transforming Birmingham's downtown landscape through community engagement and sustainable design practices.
