Caleb M. Adler

Dr. Caleb M. Adler is a Professor of Psychiatry and Neuroscience at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. He serves as the Vice Chair of Clinical Research and is the co-director of the Division of Bipolar Disorders Research and Director of the Center for Imaging Research.

Dr. Adler received his Bachelor's degree from Pennsylvania State University and his Medical Degree from Jefferson Medical College of the Thomas Jefferson University. He completed his residency in Psychiatry at Georgetown University Medical Center, where he was a Chief Resident, and a Senior Staff Fellowship in the Experimental Therapeutics Branch of the National Institute of Mental Health. He is certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (Psychiatry), with certification dating back to March 31, 1998, and recertified through January 15, 2022.

Dr. Adler's primary research focuses on the use of neuroimaging techniques to study both healthy cognitive processes and the neuropathophysiology of bipolar and psychotic disorders, as well as the psychopharmacologic treatment of bipolar disorder. His work spans multiple domains including bipolar disorder, mood disorders, neuroimaging, psychopharmacology, and major depressive disorder. Through his research, he has made significant contributions to understanding brain structure and function in bipolar disorder, particularly in adolescents and young adults.

Analysis of Dr. Adler's recent publications reveals a strong emphasis on neuroimaging biomarkers in bipolar disorder, with particular focus on adolescent populations. His research consistently explores the intersection of brain structure/function, mood disorders, and pharmacological interventions, with growing interest in nutritional approaches and comorbid conditions like substance use disorders.

Dr. Adler has received substantial research funding from prestigious sources including the National Institute of Mental Health, Theodore & Vada Stanley Foundation, National Alliance for Research on Schizophrenia and Affective Disorders, and various pharmaceutical companies. These grants total millions of dollars and support cutting-edge research in bipolar disorder treatment and neurobiology.

As Vice Chair of Clinical Research and Director of the Center for Imaging Research, Dr. Adler leads a multidisciplinary team focused on advancing our understanding of mood disorders through innovative imaging techniques and clinical trials. His work has established the University of Cincinnati as a leading center for bipolar disorder research.
