Dr. Caitlin Gormley is a Lecturer in Criminology at the University of Glasgow's School of Social and Political Sciences, with affiliations to the Scottish Centre for Crime and Justice Research and Glasgow Centre for Disability Research. She holds a PhD, MRes, and MA from the University of Glasgow (2017, 2012, 2011 respectively).
Her research focuses on prison experiences of marginalized groups, disabled individuals in criminal justice systems, and inclusive research methodologies. She coordinates university-prison reading groups and has published extensively on punitive practices and systemic inequities.
Recent work examines COVID-19's impact on incarcerated populations, repeat violence prevention, and justice accessibility for disabled defendants. Her 2022 British Journal of Criminology article highlighted hidden harms faced by learning-disabled prisoners.
