Professor CENGİZHAN SEZGİ is a distinguished academic in the Faculty of Medicine at Gaziantep University, specializing in Internal Medical Sciences with a focus on Pulmonary Diseases and Chest Diseases. With a career spanning over three decades, he has held academic positions at Dicle University and Gaziantep University, progressing from Assistant Professor to his current role as Professor. His clinical expertise and research have significantly contributed to the understanding and management of respiratory conditions in Southeastern Turkey.
Dr. SEZGİ completed his medical education at Anadolu University (1986-1992) followed by medical specialization at Yuzuncuyil University (2000-2004). His professional journey includes clinical practice at Yozgat State Hospital (2004-2009) and Giresun State Hospital (1993-2000), where he served as a General Practitioner in the Emergency Department, before transitioning to academic medicine.
His research interests encompass a broad spectrum of pulmonary medicine, with particular emphasis on Tuberculosis epidemiology in Southeastern Turkey, COPD management, Mesothelioma, Pulmonary Embolism, and Sleep Disorders. His work frequently addresses regional health challenges, especially the impact of environmental factors like asbestos exposure on respiratory health. Dr. SEZGİ has published extensively, with 75 articles documenting his contributions to pulmonary medicine, many focusing on the unique health challenges of the Southeastern Anatolian region.
Analysis of his most recent publications reveals a strong focus on practical clinical challenges including tuberculosis control, COPD management during the pandemic, spirometry testing protocols, and innovative diagnostic approaches for pulmonary conditions. His work demonstrates a consistent commitment to improving diagnostic accuracy and treatment outcomes for patients with respiratory diseases in resource-limited settings.
Dr. SEZGİ has mentored numerous students, supervising medical specialization theses on critical topics such as inflammatory markers in bronchiectasis, mortality factors in respiratory intensive care, and changes in microorganisms isolated in intensive care units. His teaching portfolio includes essential courses in pulmonary medicine such as Chest X-ray interpretation, ARDS management, Blood Gases analysis, and Pulmonary Embolism diagnosis and treatment.
Active in professional organizations, he serves as a member of the Turkish Thoracic Society, Turkish Respiratory Research Association, Diyarbakir Tuberculosis Fighting Association, and the LUNG HEALTH AND INTENSIVE CARE ASSOCIATION, contributing to the advancement of respiratory medicine in Turkey through collaborative research and clinical practice improvements.
