Professor Mahşuk Taylan is a distinguished academic in Pulmonary Medicine and Chest Diseases at Gaziantep University Faculty of Medicine. He holds the position of Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine with specialization in Pulmonary Diseases. Dr. Taylan has extensive academic experience, having previously served as Associate Professor at Gaziantep University (2019-2023), Niğde Ömer Halisdemir University (2018-2019), and Dicle University (2017-2018), as well as Doctor Lecturer at Dicle University (2012-2017).
Dr. Taylan completed his medical education at Istanbul University Faculty of Medicine (1991-1997) followed by specialization in Chest Diseases at Health Sciences University, Istanbul Süreyyapaşa Chest Diseases and Thoracic Surgery Health Application and Research Center (2005-2010). He has served as Department Head since 2018 and has taught numerous courses on respiratory function tests, pleural diseases, tuberculosis, and COPD.
His research interests span multiple areas of pulmonary medicine with particular focus on Tuberculosis epidemiology, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, Obstructive Sleep Apnea Syndrome, Pleural Diseases, and Lung Cancer. Dr. Taylan has published extensively in these fields, with numerous articles in peer-reviewed journals and presentations at national and international conferences. His work often addresses important clinical questions related to diagnostic approaches, treatment outcomes, and epidemiological patterns in respiratory diseases.
Dr. Taylan's recent research has focused on biomarkers for disease diagnosis and prognosis, examining inflammatory markers, imaging findings, and laboratory parameters in various pulmonary conditions. His publications from 2021-2023 demonstrate significant engagement with public health issues, including studies on smoking prevalence among medical students, tuberculosis trends in Southeastern Turkey, and governmental responses to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Dr. Taylan is an active member of several professional organizations including the European Respiratory Society (since 2015), Lung Health and Intensive Care Association (since 2014), Turkish Respiratory Research Association (since 2008), and Turkish Thoracic Society (since 2006). He has supervised graduate theses and participated in numerous research projects and educational courses related to pulmonary medicine.
