Céline SPECTOR is a Professor at the Philosophy Department of Sorbonne University and a Visiting Professor at the Interdepartmental European Advanced Studies (IDEAs) program at the College of Europe in Bruges. Her research focuses on modern and contemporary political philosophy, the history of philosophy from Montesquieu and Rousseau to modern times, theories of justice, and critiques of liberalism. She has extensively analyzed European democracy and sovereignty, particularly exploring the Enlightenment's legacy in contemporary political frameworks.
Her work bridges historical philosophical analysis with modern political debates, addressing themes such as sovereignty, democratic legitimacy, and the ethical dimensions of justice. Notable publications include No demos? Souveraineté et démocratie à l'épreuve de l'Europe (2021) and Rousseau et la critique de l'économie politique (2017). She co-edits the series L'esprit des lois for Librairie Vrin and collaborates on interdisciplinary projects like Europe philosophique, Europe politique (2022).
Her research emphasizes the intersection of philosophical traditions with contemporary governance challenges, particularly in the context of European integration.
