Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State Universityمعرفی
Bryan Klausmeyer is an Associate Professor of German in the Department of Modern and Classical Languages and Literatures at Virginia Tech's College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences. His academic career spans multiple prestigious institutions and focuses on interdisciplinary approaches to German studies.
His research centers on the intersection of media theory, history of science, and 18th- and 19th-century German literature. Klausmeyer's work examines how concepts of 'smallness' functioned in literary and scientific discourse around 1800, with particular attention to micrologies and short prose forms. His teaching reflects this interdisciplinary approach, covering topics from German ecological thought across centuries to serial storytelling from Goethe to Twin Peaks.
Klausmeyer has published in respected journals including Monatshefte, The Germanic Review, and Goethe Yearbook. His current book project, Small Forms: Micrologies of German Literature and Science around 1800, investigates the epistemics and poetics of small forms during the 'Sattelzeit' period of transformation in German-speaking lands.
As an educator, Klausmeyer teaches courses across multiple levels and formats, including:
- German language instruction at all levels
- Specialized courses on German exile culture in America
- German Ecological Thought (both pre- and post-1900)
- Short forms: Fables, Fragments, Aphorisms
- Revolution and Revolt: German Culture in the Long 19th Century
- Topics in German Cinema
With a background in digital humanities as a professional web designer and developer, Klausmeyer integrates technology into his teaching methodology, collaborating with digital humanities programs at various institutions to create innovative online course materials.
