Bruno Larrivée is an Associate Professor in the Department of Ophthalmology at the University of Montreal. He leads the Developmental and Pathological Angiogenesis Research Unit, focusing on blood vessel formation mechanisms in ocular diseases and tumors. His work aims to identify novel therapeutic pathways beyond VEGF inhibition.
Education:
- Doctorate in Experimental Medicine, University of British Columbia
- Postdoctoral Fellowship, INSERM U833 & College of France
- Research Associate, Yale Cardiovascular Research Center
Research Interests: His lab investigates BMP signaling in endothelial cells to combat diabetic retinopathy and age-related macular degeneration. Parallel efforts focus on tumor vascular normalization to enhance chemotherapy efficacy. He employs mouse models and genomic approaches to study vascular malformations and mechanotransduction defects.
Publications: Recent work demonstrates BMP9's role in vascular stabilization and identifies ALK1 as a key regulator of LDL metabolism. His team also explores miR-182's cardiac effects and Netrin-1's role in sympathetic innervation.
Awards:
- 2016 Louise Rousselle Trottier Award
- 2014 New Investigator Award
- 2013 Scientist Development Award
Lab Team: Collaborates with researchers including Naoufal Akla and Erika Hooker in multidisciplinary vascular biology research. Directs a team investigating both ocular and oncological vascular pathologies.
