Bruce Posner

Bruce Posner is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biochemistry at UT Southwestern Medical Center and Director of the High Throughput Screening Core Facility. He holds a B.S. in Chemistry from the University of Chicago and a Ph.D. in Biological Chemistry from Penn State University. His postdoctoral training at UT Southwestern focused on G-protein structure and function. Prior to academia, he spent a decade at Pfizer as a senior research scientist and senior principal scientist, leading over 60 high-throughput screening campaigns and contributing to FDA-approved drugs like Xeljanz and Geodon. His lab specializes in early-stage drug discovery, targeting novel biological pathways for disease therapies. Research interests include cancer biology, enzyme inhibition, and high-throughput screening methodologies.

Key research areas involve developing small molecule therapeutics and advancing pre-clinical drug development programs through collaborations with UT Southwestern investigators. His work bridges basic science and translational medicine, focusing on turning biological insights into actionable drug discovery programs.

Publications highlight contributions to Ebola virus inhibition, lung cancer biomarker discovery, metabolic syndrome treatments, and enzyme target validation. His team’s HTS Core Facility supports diverse drug discovery efforts across the institution.

Grant activities include NIH-funded studies on drug screening technologies and collaborations with pharmaceutical and academic partners. The lab’s infrastructure enables both independent research and collaborative projects in translational medicine.
