Reid Powell

Dr. Reid Powell serves as a Research Assistant Professor at Texas A&M University Health Science Center Institute of Bioscience and Technology, where he directs Data Science for the Combinatorial Drug Discovery Program (CDDP) and High Throughput Flow Cytometry Program (HtFCP) within the Center for Translational Cancer Research. His work bridges computational science and experimental biology to advance drug discovery and repurposing efforts across multiple disease contexts.

Dr. Powell earned his BS in Biochemistry from Texas Tech University (2008-2012), followed by a PhD in Medical Science from Texas A&M University (2012-2018), and completed post-doctoral training at Texas A&M (2018-2020) before joining the faculty. His academic journey reflects a deliberate integration of biological and computational expertise.

His research spans cancer biology, computational methods, and high-throughput screening technologies. Dr. Powell has developed numerous image-based, flow-based, and biochemical high throughput screening platforms applied to drug development across cancer, infectious diseases, and neurological disorders. He specializes in integrative machine learning approaches that combine genomics, transcriptomics, chemical, and image-derived data sources to generate predictive biomarkers and identify novel therapeutic targets.

Dr. Powell's publication record demonstrates expertise across multiple domains including cancer biology, drug discovery, and computational methods. His recent work focuses on high-throughput screening approaches to identify novel therapeutic targets and combinations across various cancer types, with particular emphasis on precision medicine applications for difficult-to-treat cancers.

Dr. Powell has built and maintains a distributed computing cluster housed between multiple CPRIT funded core facilities to support his computational research. His lab serves as the central data science resource for multiple high throughput screening programs at the Institute of Bioscience and Technology, facilitating the generation and interpretation of complex drug screening data.
