Stanley J. Watowich is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology at the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB). His research focuses on structural virology, antiviral drug discovery, and receptor tyrosine kinase signaling. Key projects include studying alphavirus and hepatitis C virus assembly, developing Functional Phenotype screening for antipathogen targets, and investigating c-MET receptor activation mechanisms. His lab employs structural biology, biochemistry, and computational approaches to combat infectious diseases and cancer. Recent work also explores exercise-mediated epigenetic aging mitigation in skeletal muscle.
- Research Areas: Virology, Structural Biology, Drug Discovery, Molecular Biology
- Key Technologies: X-ray crystallography, BSL-4 biocontainment labs, high-throughput screening
- Recent Articles: Focus on aging-related epigenetic changes, enzyme inhibition strategies, and antiviral drug design.
His lab’s Functional Phenotype screening technology identifies novel drug targets for pathogens, while structural studies aim to disrupt viral replication and RTK signaling. Future work integrates multi-omics approaches to improve therapeutic development.
