Bingcheng Wang, PhD, is the John A. and Josephine B. Wootton Endowed Chair of Research and Professor in the Department of Medicine at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. He also holds professorships in Pharmacology and Physiology and Biophysics. His research focuses on Eph receptor tyrosine kinases (RTKs) in cancer metastasis, tumor signaling mechanisms, and therapeutic development. Wang's lab pioneered discoveries on EphA2's dual tumor suppressor and oncogenic roles via canonical tyrosine phosphorylation and non-canonical serine 897 phosphorylation (pS897), respectively. Recent work revealed EphA2's novel multimeric assembly structure (Science 2023), offering new drug design avenues.
Education: PhD in Toxicology/Oncology from University of Wisconsin-Madison (1991), BS in Chemistry from Nanjing University. Postdoc at Sanford Burnham Prebys Institute (La Jolla Cancer Research Foundation).
Research Interests: Molecular mechanisms of cell migration/proliferation; EphA2 signaling in tumor progression/drug resistance; development of tumor-targeting peptides/small molecules. Current projects include live-cell spectroscopy of membrane protein interactions, EphA2-driven immune evasion, and PROTAC-based therapeutics.
Affiliations: Molecular Oncology Program (Case Comprehensive Cancer Center), Cleveland Center for Membrane & Structural Biology. Active in translational research bridging structural biology and clinical oncology.
