Bruce D Gelb

Dr. Bruce D. Gelb is the Gogel Family Chair and Director of The Mindich Child Health and Development Institute at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. He serves as Dean for Child Health Research, Director of the Center for Molecular Cardiology, and holds professorships in Pediatrics and Genetics and Genomic Sciences. He is board-certified in Pediatric Cardiology.

Education: MD from the University of Rochester School of Medicine/Dentistry, residency in Pediatrics at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center, and fellowship in Pediatric Cardiology at Texas Children's Hospital.

Research focuses on genetic causes of congenital heart defects, Noonan syndrome, and RAS signaling pathways. Techniques include genomic sequencing, CRISPR-edited stem cells, and Drosophila models. The Mindich Institute emphasizes translational research in childhood diseases like cardiovascular defects, neurodevelopmental disorders, and obesity.

Awards include the E. Mead Johnson Award and Norman J. Siegel Award, membership in the National Academy of Medicine, and repeated recognition as a 'Best Doctor' by New York Magazine. He leads the Cardiovascular Genetics Program and holds leadership roles in pediatric research organizations.
