Brooke Durham is an Assistant Professor of History at Boston University, specializing in French imperial and decolonization history. Her research examines interpersonal dynamics during the end of the French Empire, focusing on Cold War politics, development, and decolonization in Algeria and Africa post-1945.
Education: B.A. in History and International Politics from Penn State University; M.A. and Ph.D. in History from Stanford University. Previously taught at West Virginia University.
Research interests include transnational youth activism, educational exchanges, and the socio-political negotiations between Europeans and Africans during decolonization. Current projects explore collaborative human development efforts in Algeria and student exchanges across the French Empire.
Teaches courses on French Empire and Modern European history, advising graduate students on France, Europe, and North/West African history. On leave for Fall 2024.
