Brit Helene Lyngstad is an Associate Professor of French Literature at the University of Agder (UiA), affiliated with the Department of Foreign Languages and Translation within the Faculty of Humanities and Education. She holds a Cand.philol from the University of Oslo (1990) and a PhD from UiO (2013). Her research focuses on French literature from the 17th to 21st centuries, with special emphasis on body representation in texts like Marie Cardinal's Les Mots pour le dire, speech functions in Victor Hugo's Les Misérables, and Mediterranean cultural themes. She coordinates French, Spanish, and German programs in teacher training and leads online French course development.
Her work bridges literary analysis with interdisciplinary fields such as medical humanities and cultural studies. Notable publications include Multiple Mediterranean (2018 anthology) and The Body as Display (2015 monograph). She has served on the Franco-Norwegian Center board in Caen and contributed to UiA's quality assurance initiatives. Teaching responsibilities include French literature and practical language instruction across undergraduate programs.
Recent research highlights include exploring grotesque aesthetics in Algerian contexts, modernist metamorphoses in contemporary fiction, and the role of literature in medical education. Her articles frequently appear in journals like Tidsskrift for kjønnsforskning and Edda, alongside public engagement through media like Forskning.no and Vårt Land.
