Brigitte Goutal

Brigitte Goutal is a Professor in the Department of Languages and Cultures at West Chester University. She holds a Ph.D. from Harvard University and specializes in 17th-century French literature, European history, and pedagogy. Her research interests include Franco-American relations, contemporary art, and women's writings. She has been recognized with the Outstanding Faculty Award (Honors College, 2007-2010, 2012-2014) and multiple entries in Who's Who Among America's Teachers (2002–2004).

Dr. Goutal teaches courses such as Advanced Grammar and Stylistic Pedagogy, French Cinema, and Women Today (cross-listed with Women’s and Gender Studies). Her work bridges literary analysis with cultural studies, particularly focusing on disguise and authority in 17th-century France. She actively contributes to study abroad programs and has mentored students in interdisciplinary projects.
