Her research spans two primary areas: contemporary Francophone literature (especially North Africa, the Caribbean, and sub-Saharan Africa) and 17th-century French novelists. She explores themes like decolonization, gender roles, and identity formation through literary analysis.
Recent publications focus on political upheaval in French-speaking regions, including Tunisian uprisings in Par le feu and À peine j’ouvre les yeux, and the Algerian Civil War in Yasmina Khadra’s Roman Noir. Earlier works examine burlesque language in 17th-century French prose.
Scientific awards include a Great Lakes Colleges Association New Directions Initiative grant for research in Aix-en-Provence (2011) and a Hope College summer research grant (2003).
