Dr. Brigit Maria Carter is Clinical Professor Emerita and Associate Dean for Diversity and Inclusion at Duke University School of Nursing. With extensive neonatal nursing expertise, her scholarship addresses health equity, inclusive education practices, and neonatal critical care improvements.
Education:

Research Focus: Dr. Carter develops evidence-based interventions for neonatal care environments while leading institutional transformation in diversity, equity and inclusion. Her current projects examine implicit bias mitigation in clinical practice and inclusive language frameworks in healthcare education.
Academic Leadership: As former ABSN Program Director (2015-2018) and current Associate Dean (2018-present), she established faculty development programs including the PEACE framework for addressing discrimination and seed grants for advancing inclusive excellence. She has secured HRSA funding for workforce diversity initiatives totaling over $2M.
