Brigit M. Carter

Brigit M. Carter is an Associate Professor and Associate Dean for Diversity and Inclusion at Duke University School of Nursing. She joined the faculty in 2010 and teaches in the Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing (ABSN) program, with expertise in pediatrics and professional nursing.

• BSN from North Carolina Central University (1998)
• MSN in Nursing Education from University of North Carolina at Greensboro (2002)
• PhD in Nursing from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (2009)

Her research focuses on neonatal care, particularly feeding intolerance in preterm infants and maternal/neonatal risk factors for necrotizing enterocolitis. She also advocates for increasing diversity in nursing through programs like the HRSA-funded Health Equity Academy.

Dr. Carter serves as a board member of the North Carolina Nursing Association and has 26 years of U.S. Navy service, currently as a Commander in the Navy Reserves at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth.
