Debra H. Brandon is a Professor at the Duke University School of Nursing, where she has been a faculty member since 1999. She also practices part-time as a Neonatal Clinical Nurse Specialist at Duke University Medical Center, focusing on intensive care for infants. Her academic journey includes a PhD, MSN, and BSN from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Dr. Brandon’s research examines how intensive care environments affect preterm infants’ growth and development, with a focus on light exposure and sleep patterns. She has led longitudinal studies (e.g., F-31 NR07180, R01 NR008044) and contributed to tools for sleep-wake assessment in infants.
Her clinical expertise spans neonatal critical care, palliative care for infants with life-threatening conditions, and developmental support for preterm infants. She serves as a co-editor for Advances in Neonatal Care and is affiliated with programs such as the PhD in Nursing, Master of Science in Nursing, and Doctor of Nursing Practice at Duke.
