Brian Scassellati is the A. Bartlett Giamatti Professor of Computer Science at Yale University, with an additional appointment in Mechanical Engineering. His research focuses on social robotics, human-robot interaction, and developmental psychology, particularly in autism therapy and assistive technologies. Scassellati earned his Ph.D., M.Eng., and B.S. from MIT, specializing in robotics and cognitive science.
He leads the Social Robotics Lab, developing robots to support human social development and mental health. Notable achievements include the A. Richard Newton Breakthrough Award (2008), Alfred P. Sloan Fellowship (2007), and multiple Best Paper Awards. His work bridges computational models of social behavior with practical applications in healthcare and education.
