Brian S. Lowery is the The Walter Kenneth Kilpatrick Professor of Organizational Behavior at Stanford University’s Graduate School of Business (GSB). He holds leadership roles as Founding Co-Director of The Stanford Institute for Advancing Just Societies and Director of programs such as the Executive Program in Leadership and Black Leadership Program. His academic journey includes a PhD in Social Psychology from UCLA (2001) and faculty tenure at Stanford since 2002.
Lowery’s research explores inequality perception, social identities, and how interpersonal relationships shape self-concept. His work is published in top journals like Journal of Personality and Social Psychology and Law and Human Behavior. His 2023 book Selfless argues the 'self' is socially constructed through interactions. He hosts the podcast Know What You See and teaches courses on leadership and societal impact.
His awards include the Hank McKinnell-Pfizer Inc. Faculty Fellow (2017–18) and Graduate School of Business Trust Faculty Fellow (2014–15). His initiatives like Leadership for Society aim to cultivate leaders addressing systemic inequities. Lowery’s executive education programs focus on high-performance leadership, interpersonal dynamics, and diversity.
