Brian McIntosh is an Associate Professor of Integrated Water Management at Griffith University's School of Environment and Science, and a member of the Australian Rivers Institute. He serves as Education Director for the International WaterCentre (IWC) and leads capacity-building programs in water management globally. His expertise spans water sector innovation, collaborative decision-making, and leadership development.
Education: PhD in Ecological Modelling (University of Edinburgh, 2002) and BSc (Hons) Ecology (University of Stirling, 1996). Academic roles include Lecturer and Water Program Leader at Cranfield University (2000–2010) and Research Fellowships at the University of Edinburgh (1999–2001).
Research focuses on integrating innovation and leadership in water management, with projects in over 20 countries. Key areas include catchment science, climate adaptation, and water policy. He has designed programs for 86 countries and leads initiatives like the $1.3m ADB-funded Master of Integrated Water Resource Management program at Kabul Polytechnic University.
Professional recognition includes the AAUT Citation for Outstanding Contribution to Student Learning (2023), Stormwater Industry Association's Excellence in Research Award (2013), and an Early Career Research Excellence Award (2008).
Teaching roles include Program Director for Griffith's Master of Integrated Water Management, Master of Catchment Science, and the award-winning Water Leadership Program. Current grants include the Queensland Water Modelling Network's 3CP program ($1.57m) and projects with the Hindu Kush-Himalaya region.
