Brian Manker is an Assistant Professor at the Schulich School of Music of McGill University, specializing in Music Performance. He serves as Principal Cello of the Orchestre symphonique de Montréal since 1999 and is a member of the Juno and Opus Award-winning New Orford String Quartet. His pedagogical work includes founding the Adorno Quartet (2007) to perform Beethoven’s quartets in private salons and launching the Beethoven Project. He recorded the complete Bach Cello Suites in 2010. Manker plays a 1728–1730 Pietro Guarneri cello and a Joseph René Lafleur bow, both loaned by Canimex.
Research interests focus on classical performance practices, chamber music collaboration, and historical instrument interpretation. His teaching emphasizes technical mastery and artistic expression in cello performance.
