Brian Lush serves as Associate Professor of Classics at Macalester College, specializing in Greek and Latin Languages and Literatures with a focus on Greek Drama. His academic home resides within the Department of Classics, where he teaches courses spanning Greek Myths, the Greek World, and language instruction at all proficiency levels.
His research centers on Euripides' works, particularly examining recognition and epistemology in Greek tragedy. Key interests include trauma representation in Medea and dramatic irony in Alcestis, bridging classical studies with psychological frameworks.
Lush's recent publications reveal a concentrated exploration of Euripidean tragedy through modern theoretical lenses, emphasizing trauma theory and narrative techniques. His scholarly output demonstrates consistent engagement with how ancient texts process human suffering and cognitive dissonance.
Professor Lush holds a BA from the University of Kentucky, followed by both Master’s and PhD degrees from the University of Wisconsin–Madison, where his doctoral research investigated recognition and epistemology in Euripides.
