Brian Gellerstein

Brian Gellerstein is an Assistant Professor of Music Education at Berklee College of Music, where he teaches contemporary issues in urban public school systems, race and racism in music, research methods, and culturally responsive pedagogy. He holds a PhD in Urban Education Leadership and Policy from the University of Massachusetts Boston, with dissertation research focusing on white supremacy and gatekeeping in music education. His professional background spans public school teaching, nonprofit leadership, district arts administration, and higher education.

His research examines the dismantling of white supremacy in education, anti-racist frameworks, and culturally generative pedagogy. He serves as the Jazz & Contemporary Music Column Editor for the Massachusetts Music Educators Journal and frequently presents at national conferences on equity-centered education reform.
